The Law Offices of Thompson, Vollono, and Donovan LLC

Our firm is ready and able to explain all the details. Michael Vollono

Plainville Beginnings

The law firm of Thompson, Vollono, and Donovan, LLC is located in a mid-19th century neighborhood and one of the oldest sections of downtown Plainville in a building that was constructed in 1855. The original residence at 49 Broad Street was built by J. S. Corban and occupied by Doctor Hulett at a time when Broad Street was known as "Broadway"; Sam Camp's Trotting Park was located where Race Avenue is today, and the Farmington Canal still flowed through the center of Plainville (then still a part of the Farmington township).

The law firm had its beginning in 1982. As of 2007, Michael V. Vollono and Barry L. Thompson have been in practice together for twenty-five years, the longest lived law partnership in the Town of Plainville. Between the two of them they bring 60 years of experience to the general practice of law.

Barry was born and raised in Plainville, attending Plainville public schools before attending Georgetown University in Washington, D. C. and returning to Connecticut to earn his law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. Michael attended the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut School of Law and has been in practice in Plainville ever since.

Lawyers for the 21st Century

"The practice of law, even in a small town general practice, will become increasingly dependent on computer technology" asserts Thompson. "Our office is equipped with a fifth generation computer system, high-speed ISDN Internet connection, and we have instant access to internet legal research.

Our website is updated monthly with timely articles of interest to the consumer and local businesses alike. Both Mike and I, as well as the staff members, have their home computers linked to the office computer system so that we have immediate access to current files away from the office."

The firm has experienced substantial client growth in the past ten years due to the increase in productivity based on technology usage. Mike Vollono noted that, "We have taken two real estate subdivisions through the maze of local land use commissions."

All aspects of real estate practice were up in 2006; residential and commercial purchases, mortgage refinancing, and new construction all experienced dramatic increases at the firm. We cover real estate matters throughout the State of Connecticut."

The firm is an approved real estate closing counsel for numerous local, statewide and national lending institutions including Farmington Savings Bank, McCue Mortgage Company, Valley Bank, Apple Valley Bank, Sovereign Bank, and Capital Mortage Associates.

The new entrepreneurial spirit incited by the internet and its progeny contributed to a record number of new business entities being formed by the firm. Limited Liability Companies (LLC's for short) led the way, but corporations and partnerships in addition to increased activity from existing business clients made for a great year in the business aspects of the law practice.

"Our internet link gives us direct access to the Office of the Secretary of State of Connecticut to investigate and search business records and business filings right from our desks. This allows us to create and verify a new business entity for our clients without even lifting the telephone" notes Thompson. They can also obtain Federal Employee Identification Numbers for new businesses in minutes.

Hometown Friendly Touch

The firm handles all manner of personal injury cases including automobile and motorcycle accidents, injuries at work, medical malpractice claims, as well as slip and fall cases. Attorney Vollono states, "We are a small law practice but technology gives us the ability to serve all of our local clients' needs in a professional and thorough manner without sacrificing that hometown friendly touch."

With changes in the local economy Thompson, Vollono, and Donovan, LLC has experienced dramatic growth in personal bankruptcy filings as well as representation of individuals involved in divorce proceedings and related matters.

"Our software programs enable us to prepare, file, amend, and correct the lengthy forms required in connection with a bankruptcy filing accurately and quickly, keeping the cost down for our clients. The Federal Bankruptcy Court now requires some documents to be filed on computer disc and we have been doing that for several years now" observed Barry Thompson.

Both personal bankruptcy and divorce related matters as well as many probate matters involve people going through very difficult and emotional times. Mike Vollono states; "We spend as much time as the client requires, making sure that they understand all their options as well as how the system operates. This can be time consuming but it is the only way for a client to make informed and well-reasoned choices concerning these important and far-reaching decisions".

Both Barry and Mike are trained in collaborative family law and are members of the Central Connecticut Collaborative Family Law Group (CCCFLG).

Small Firm, High Quality

The firm's technology allows them to compete with larger firms in the ever more complicated maze of laws and rules, but they also offer the best of both worlds.

"Our firm is small enough to spend the time with you to answer your questions in detail and yet we have the advantage of computer and internet technology to be able to provide fast accurate, high-quality research and legal products at a fair price. Our firm is in the forefront of the use of new technologies to provide clients with high quality legal services while still being ready and able to spend the time to personally explain all the details." boasts Thompson.
